About us
2012 Republican Presidential Caucus Latah County, Idaho

Idaho will hold its first ever, Presidential caucus March 6th. Previously, we held a Presidential primary during our primary elections in May. The reason for the change is to hold the event 2 months earlier and increase the chance that Idaho can have a greater impact on the selection of the Republican Presidential nominee.

Key points regarding the caucus:

• Only registered Republicans may participate in the Republican caucus. If you are not a registered voter, you will need to fill out a voter registration form and declare yourself as a Republican. If you are already a registered voter, you will need to fill out the new Party Affiliation Form and check the Republican box. Both forms will be available at the caucus.

• These forms can also be filled out before the caucus by going to the county clerk’s office at the courthouse or the Driver’s license office in the Eastside Marketplace. If you have changed your address since last voting, you need to re-register and affiliate. Wherever you decide to register, you will need a photo ID.

• There will be four designated caucus sites around the county, and you may attend the site most convenient for you.

- Moscow Jr. High Field House
- Princeton Community Center
- Troy High School
- Kendrick VFW Hall

• The doors will open at 6 PM, for those needing to fill out their registration and affiliation forms and also to verify the registration of those that have already registered and affiliated. Once this has been completed, you will be given a ballot.

• At 7 PM, the doors will be closed and the voting procedure will be explained. Voting takes place in successive rounds with the count being tabulated for the entire county. After each round, the candidate receiving the fewest votes and any candidate(s) receiving fewer than 15% of the Caucus vote are eliminated.

• Voting continues until a single candidate receives greater than 50% of the vote, or until a final vote is taken for the final two candidates. In event of a tie, then both will be reported to Boise and the Latah County delegates will be split accordingly. You must remain in the caucus site until all voting is completed for your vote to count. We hope to be done by 8:00 or 9:00 PM. The Republican Party was born just prior to the Civil War as the party that was dedicated to ending slavery, and providing freedom to EVERYONE. Our first president Abraham Lincoln, is considered by many, the greatest President of all time. In more contemporary times, the party of Ronald Reagan has continued to be known as the party of individual freedom, as well as for fiscal discipline, low taxes, a strong national defense, and personal property rights, just to name a few.

America is at a crossroads. The politicians in Washington D.C. led by President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid, are spending money at rates never before seen in American history. The debt piled up during the first two years of the Obama presidency is nearly 3 TRILLION dollars. In addition to massive debt, we have seen Wall Street bailouts, a wasted trillion dollar stimulus, car company takeovers and worst of all, the government takeover of our healthcare system.

Our total debt is now is over 13 14 15 TRILLION dollars. This does not count the “off budget” items of Social Security, Medicare, and prescription drug coverage. Just these 3 programs have unfunded liabilities of over 110 trillion dollars; that is more than $350,000 for every man, woman, and child in America. Everyone agrees that we MUST cut spending and that our current path is unsustainable. After tripling our yearly debt, even President Obama TALKS about cutting spending, but the Democrats just never seem to get around to it.

That is why the 2012 elections were so important, and why we must continue here at the local level to keep putting sane policies in place at all levels of government. We invite EVERYONE to join us. The Democrats have stated that their goal is to "Fundamentally Change" this great nation. I would ask everyone...Why would we want to fundamentally change the greatest nation in the history of the world? We must not stand by and let this happen.
